14th June 2018
The Riverfront, Kingsway, Newport, NP20 1HG
9:00am – 3:30pm
This one-day multi-activity event will focus on creative teaching and learning strategies to help prepare primary educators for Wales’ new curriculum.
Delegates will participate in four hands-on workshops facilitated by creative education specialists. The workshops will be opportunities to enhance the creative learning and teaching strategies you use in the classroom. Strategies will be shared that yo...u can immediately use back at school.
Naveed Idrees – headteacher of Feversham Primary Academy in Bradford, will be making a keynote address sharing his whole school approach to creative learning and teaching. Earlier this year, Arts and Education Network staff visited the school and were struck by the innovative approaches adopted and how they had impacted on not just attainment but the well being of both staff and pupils.
Feversham Primary Academy has been making headlines for its approach of embedding ‘music, drama and art into every part of the school day… with remarkable results’ (The Guardian, 3rd Oct 2017). From being a school in special measures seven years ago, Feversham has been shortlisted for the TES Primary School of the Year 2018 award and TES Employer of the Year 2018 award. It recently won the SSAT Educational Outcomes Award for pupil progress in Reading, Writing and Maths. Staff have been enabled by Naveed to develop the creative approaches which have led to these successes.
This event is free for primary teachers and teaching assistants working in the South East region of Wales: Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.
Supply cover reimbursement of up to £100 is available and lunch is provided.
