INTRODUCTORY CLASS from 6.30 to 8.00 pm: £3
This drop-in class is ideal for absolute beginners and improvers to learn the basics of djembe accompaniments, arranged breaks and solo phrases, working as a group towards an overall understanding of the music.
INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED CLASS from 8.15 to 9.30 pm: £5
This drop-in class is good for intermediate and improver players who wish to learn more complex accompaniments, bass lines, arranged breaks and solo material.
DRUM HIRE: £2 — Please let us know via private message to Wadada Cymru at least one day ahead.
LOCATION: The venue Ocean Arts Cardiff is at 5-min walking distance from the Magic Roundabout in Cardiff city centre and there is free street parking available on site. Once you are on East Moors Rd, please look for the sign «Athetic Creation», as we are literally next to it!
TEACHER: Luca first approached West African music with Bernd Geh by azdrumanddance.org in 2006. From 2007 to 2009, he attended residential classes with Herman Kathan by TamTamMandengue in northen Italy and Germany. From 2009 to 2011, he moved to Rome and joined the Wamde ensamble of traditional percussion and dance. Luca has learnt traditional Guinean rhythms from Sourakhata and Lancey Dioubate (2010-2012), Sana and Dian Camara (2013-present) and Iya Sako (2015-present). Since 2014, he has been studying traditional Malian rhytms with the drumming and dancing professor Bifalo Kouyate. To date, Luca teaches drumming in Wales and play support in the UK for a number of master drummers and dancers including Iya Sako, Sidiki Dembele, Aida Diop and Saskia Watkin. He also performs with the groups Tanante (Manchester), Silimbo (Cardiff) and Katandi (Bristol).
