Joe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy
It's easy to consign the idea of the itinerant blues singer to myth (Robert Johnson) or caricature (Seasick Steve) but in 2018, Joe Kelly is as close as you'll get to the real thing. Having spent the last couple of years calling a dilapidated camper van home and playing hundreds of shows armed with just a beaten-up guitar, a stomping foot and a harmonica, Joe decided that enough was enough, breaking free of the limitations of the one-man band and enlisting the services of a hand picked troupe of the finest local guns for hire, the ‘Royal Pharmacy’.
Debut single ‘Devil At Your Door’, an apocalyptic folk-blues with roots instrumentation and a contemporary edge proved an immediate hit with regional radio DJs earning the band a BBC Horizons grant and setting Joe up for a fruitful summer of festival appearances and an Italian tour.
The Launchpad funding saw Joe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy begin work on their debut album at the renowned Monnow Valley studios, the first single from which, ‘Babylon’, was released in December 2018.
Glass Jackets are a four piece folk, rock & roll band from Cardiff. Starting as the solo project of Chicago born Ilana Held, the band formed in 2016 as Held's boot stomping original songs demanded a more raucous, high energy outlet.
The band, now made up of four songwriters in their own rights has built an entire arsenal of songs around the backbone of solo material which spurred the band into existence.
Glass Jackets have taken their collective influences of Dylan, Frank Turner & the Rolling Stones and created a fresh, energetic approach to storytelling, with anthemic choruses and twangy guitars.
With her distinct voice, hypnotic blues-folk finger picking and an honest, down to earth selection of self-penned songs, Bryony Sier has fast become something of a household name in local Americana and country circles.
Sier's debut EP 'The Crossroads' received much deserved recognition from the likes of the BBC's Bethan Elfyn, securing her slots at SWN Festival and earning the Merthyr born singer-songwriter local arts funding.
The second EP released late last year is yet another example of Sier's proficiency as both a singer and guitar player from ballads like 'Rolling Stone' to the haunting fingerpicking of title track, 'Babylon'.
