Hi all! Back in December, I was extremely fortunate enough to be able to bring my stories and music exploring female identity and struggles within opera to audiences at the Barbican Centre; here I’ve expanded the programme to encompass a more complete “cycle” inspired by Schumann’s famous Frauenlieben und Leben. However, my cycle will be highlighting not just love, but the sacrifices and consequences of devotion; female characters in opera face disproportionately high levels of isolation, dispossession, and disenchfranchisement when trying to change their given and/or chosen circumstances. I think these characters and situations are all relatable and very relevant in today’s political atmosphere. Please join Caradog Williams and myself at 1:00 PM in the Weston Gallery in the Anthony Hopkins Centre at the RWCMD for what I hope is an exciting programme interspersed with frankness that is atypical in a normal lecture recital.

Caradog Williams, piano
