Idrissa Nimba Camara invites you to his homeland of Guinea for an unforgettable journey into the heart of West Africa. Guinea — a magical place with a huge dose of music, dance and the essence of West African culture. You will have the opportunity to participate in many dance and percussion workshops with the best local musicians and dancers.
From the 4th-18th of February 2018 Join a two week DANCE, MUSIC and CULTURAL journey through the beautiful West African country of Guinea.
We will first arrive in the city of Conakry, which is bursting with djembe and musical energy! The streets are alive with drumming, as spectacular dance troupes are immersed in rehearsals and performances throughout the city. We will spend time with these troupes, training in energetic Guinean movement.
We will travel then to the beautiful Bel Air, with its untouched stretch of 7 km beach. This beach is mesmerising, and a paradise for those who love beaches due to the amazing weather and clear blue water.
Our dance and music training will take place in a relaxing compound, beside the beach. We will be sharing rooms in villa accommodation.
Throughout our stay, we will have twice daily dance classes with Idrissa Camara and highly skilled local dance teachers. Each afternoon we will hold djembe drum workshops, working with a local drumming troupe, supported by master musicians.
Whilst staying in Bel Air we will make an excursion to the village of Boke. Boke is within the Baga region. The Baga being some of the most artistically prolific ethnic groups in Africa, and creators of the revered Nimba mask. We will also take this opportunity to visit the beautiful Batafon River, surrounded by palm trees and lush green forests.
Our journey will continue with the most spectacular part of our stay, Kassa Island. Without doubt Kassa is one of Guinea's most beautiful wonders. Kassa is a short boat ride
from Conakry, where you can relax on the unique red sand and enjoy the local fishing community whilst also taking trips into the city to experience first hand the incredibly vibrant dance culture of the capital Conakry.
We will celebrate our final weekend in true Guinean style with a Dundunba street party. Get your solos ready!
