Theme from Alex, Recluse and Matt John
Originally conceived as a solo project, Theme From Alex's first album, 2003's 'Thirsty Broken Magic' was written by Matthew and produced by Rob Reed (of Magenta). The album featured Rob on Keyboards, Ryan Aston on Drums and guest appearances from Edward Sprague and Hugh Griffiths on Lead Guitars.
On completing the album, Ed and Matt ventured out on a series of acoustic dates to support it. Meanwhile the song 'She' won a placement at the International Songwriting Competition, gaining an Honourable Mention in the rock category.
Soon it was decided that a full band should be put in place and a lineup was solidified consisting of Kieran Bailey on Drums, Colin Edwards on Keyboards, Jamie Roberts or Jon Powell on Bass, Ed on Guitar and Matt on Vocals and Guitar. Unfortunately, after a handful of well recieved gigs and several false starts on recording a follow up, the project was abandoned and the band went into a hiatus that spanned a decade.
Interest was recently rekindled when the idea of performing the songs from 'Thirsty Broken Magic' live was put forward. The band have streamlined to a dynamic 4 piece enabling them to re-energise the songs. New material is now being worked on in earnest and the dream of the long forgotten 2nd album looks like it may finally be realised. Watch this space…
Since 2009 Recluse have continually played the local South Wales scene and festivals throughout the UK with a great response to their dynamic and powerful live show. Recluse regularly play with some of UK's up-and-coming bands such as Henry's Funeral Shoe, Kyshera, Bad Sign and Spider Kitten. Following on from their highly praised debut studio album Crooked Heart, they will release their 2nd album in spring 2015.
